Cassowary Cafe is owned and run by Ron Game and his wife, Steph. It was an idea conceived from their passion for coffee, people and the environment – both the planet and its magnificent wildlife.
With retirement looming, Ron was looking to occupy his days and coffee roasting was his first stop. After 12 months of learning to roast and brew, he was ready to start a roastery but, instead, they decided to do more than just coffee beans and open a cafe together.
The vision for the cafe was a welcoming, inviting space for the whole community that serves up a wide range of dangerously good and ethically and sustainably sourced coffees – the best coffee in Belmont – alongside speciality teas and delicious, Instagrammable cafe menu items.
The name ‘Cassowary’ comes from Ron and Steph’s desire to protect this rare and ancient Aussie icon and its stunning and diverse habitat, the Daintree Rainforest. We actively promote, raise money and sell postcards for our friends at Rainforest Rescue.
We don’t just sell tea, coffee, tucker and a table. We carefully prepare eco and ethically sourced lattes, loose-leaf teas, and more served with a welcoming smile. If you have time, our staff will even tell you the story of the people and beverage you’ve chosen.
Deliciously diverse menus
What’s your favourite brew? We offer a unique choice of coffee styles, as well as cold brews, long blacks and nitro on tap. When it comes to tea, we don’t just plonk a bag in a pot. We offer various loose-leaf black teas from local supplier Pekoe Valley Teas, from herbal to hot or cold-pressed Turkish nitro. We also do milkshakes and slushies for kids. Hungry? Tuck into a Daintree Bowl, Chicken Burger, in-house made Muffin and more.
Welcoming space for all
Our cafe is a light-filled, natural and welcoming place for all. It’s where trades come for their morning pick me up, where mums and retirees meet for tea and cake and where parents relax at the weekends while the kids play in a safe area. We even cater to businesses and groups who want to hold a catch-up or function. Plus, we can roll with a wide range of allergy and dietary requirements, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan.
Planet-friendly ethos
We have an ethical and sustainable mindset – and we choose suppliers that do, too. This means we’re committed to using fresh, natural and ethically and eco-sourced local ingredients – both in our brews and on our plates. We’re strongly committed to saving the planet and its wildlife for our children and future generations. One of our big causes is the Daintree – one of the world’s natural wonders.
